When working on a photoshoot for a clothing brand, the makeup must complement the garments without overpowering them. For the recent shoot with For Your Soul, I focused on creating a soft, natural makeup look for the women and a clean, polished grooming style for the men. The goal was to enhance the models' features subtly, allowing the clothing to remain the star of the images.

The Vision Behind the Makeup
For Your Soul’s clothing line has a relaxed yet refined aesthetic. To match this, the makeup needed to feel effortless and fresh. Heavy or dramatic makeup would distract from the clothing’s textures and colors. Instead, I chose to emphasize glowing skin, gentle contouring, and neutral tones that enhance natural beauty.
For the women, this meant using lightweight foundations and creams that even out skin tone without masking it. I added a touch of blush to bring warmth and subtle highlights to catch the light. Eye makeup stayed minimal with soft browns and taupes, paired with natural-looking mascara applications. Lips were kept nude or lightly tinted to maintain a fresh appearance.
For the men, grooming was key. Clean, well-moisturized skin set the base. I focused on tidying brows and adding a bit of definition to cheekbones and jawlines without making it obvious. The goal was to keep the look polished but approachable.
Collaboration with an Amazing Team
This shoot was a true team effort. Working alongside talented photographers, stylists, and the For Your Soul team made the process smooth and inspiring. Maya Zafrani, who is the founder, was welcoming and collaborative, which made my role even more enjoyable.
Assistance from Darya Beauty helped keep the makeup flawless throughout the shoot, especially during quick changes. The models brought energy and professionalism, making it easy to adapt the makeup to different looks and lighting setups.
The styling team carefully selected pieces that reflected the brand’s identity, and the photographers captured the essence of both the clothing and the makeup perfectly. Everyone’s dedication showed in the final images.
Practical Tips for Achieving a Soft Makeup Look
If you want to recreate this kind of makeup style for your own shoots or daily wear, here are some practical steps:
Start with skin prep: Cleanse and moisturize well. Use a primer that suits your skin type to create a smooth base.
Choose lightweight foundation: Opt for tinted moisturizers or light foundations that even out skin tone without feeling heavy.
Use cream products: Cream blushes and highlighters blend seamlessly into the skin for a natural glow.
Keep eyes simple: Stick to neutral shades and avoid heavy liners. Use mascara sparingly to enhance lashes without clumping.
Define brows softly: Fill in sparse areas with a pencil or powder that matches your natural brow color.
Go for natural lips: Use tinted balms or nude lipsticks that add just a hint of color.
Men’s grooming: Focus on clean skin, subtle contouring with bronzer or matte powder, and well-groomed brows.
Why Soft Makeup Works for Clothing Shoots
Soft makeup allows the clothing to take center stage. When makeup is too bold, it can clash with the outfit or distract viewers from the brand’s message. A natural look complements a wide range of styles and lighting conditions, making it versatile for different shoots.
This approach also reflects current trends toward authenticity and simplicity in fashion imagery. It helps models look approachable and relatable, which can connect better with the audience.
Looking Ahead for For Your Soul
Being part of this shoot was a rewarding experience. The passion and creativity of the For Your Soul team are clear, and I am excited to see how the brand grows. Their commitment to quality and style shines through every detail, from the clothing to the collaborative spirit behind the scenes.
I look forward to future projects with them and continuing to create makeup looks that enhance their vision without overshadowing it.
